Welcome to the Weekend Golf Tour
Mike Schaeffer hasn't played much this year. But, as he usually does, he made the most of it Sunday in the brisk conditions at Royal Hylands. While he was too far back to finish in the top-5 for the season, little did anyone know that he'd still have an impact on final results in the year-end points race. Down a stroke with just one hole to play, Mike hit a career 3-wood to within 5 feet to set up an eagle and eventual tie with older brother Tony. Mike finished his round with a 76 (NET 70) and Tony finished with a 71 (NET 70). As the points for other positions were being added up, an interesting development was unfolding. Rick Gross, leader in the points race, finished the season with 1291 points and appeared to have secured the title. But 500 points for first place meant Tony Schaeffer had a chance to not only win the event, but win the entire SEASON. He entered the finale with 800 points and would have had 1300 (a mere 9 points more than Gross). But he was denied as younger brother Mike saved the season for Rick Gross and picked up the victory.
Brian Gillam quietly picked up third place with his 88 (NET 73). Rick Gross' 81 (NET 75) and Shawn Brown's 84 (NET 75) rounded out the top-5 spots.

After the dust settled on the final event, Rick Gross claimed Player of the Year honors.
