WGT NEWS

MIKE SCHAEFFER WINS FINAL EVENT!!

The Weekend Golf Tour held its season finale at the beautiful Royal Hylands Golf Club in Knightstown.  Mike Schaeffer, the man known as "Squirrel" on Tour, definitely had his "A" game on Saturday.  Schaeffer repeatedly fired at the flags as he finished with four birdies en route to a net 66 (-5) on the 6,452 yard par 71 links style course.  This marked Schaeffer's first WGT win of the year, and he posted the lowest gross winning score of the year.  Brian Gillam continued his hot play as he carded a net 70 (-1) to grab second.  For the official results from Saturday's, check out the Royal Hylands results page.  The Tour would like to thank all the participants and the Royal Hylands Golf Club for a wonderful event.

BROWN SURVIVES TO BECOME WGT PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Jim Brown came into the final event with little room for error, as he held a slim seven point lead over Tim Sites in the race for WGT Player of the Year.  Brown's sixth place finish on Saturday was all he needed, as he was crowned the inaugural points champion.  Sites finished in a tie for second with Brian Gillam, whose second place finish at Royal Hylands allowed him to gain eighteen valuable points.  There was no change in the final two spots as Tony Schaeffer finished fourth and Shawn Brown fifth.  For all Weekend Golf Tour statistics, check out the 2001 Standings page.

The Weekend Golf Tour wants to again thank everyone for participating in this inaugural season.  We hope to build a bigger and better WGT for next season.  We hope everyone will come along for the ride.

WGT TIP OF THE WEEK

The Weekend Golf Tour is proud to present a new weekly feature, the Tip of the Week.  The tip is aimed to help golfers of all skill levels.  Here is this week's tip:  When choosing a club for a chip shot, picture what the ball is going to do coming off of that club.  Don't just rely on the same club for every shot from just off the green.  The idea should be to get the ball onto the green as quickly as possible and let it roll to the hole.  It is much easier to gauge how far a ball will roll than how far it will fly.

GOD BLESS AMERICA!!
